On Wilders’ Fitna Movie and politics
28 Mar
Dutch politician Geert Wilders released his much .. uhm .. hated .. anticipated .. well his movie Fitna yesterday after weeks and weeks of talking about it. Even his provider Network Solutions refused to host the thing because it would be such a hateful movie. I think this thing got way more attention than it deserved.
My political views could be said to be oriented towards the center-right, while being quite progressive and liberal. This all follows from my personal view of freedom, freedom to live life. Everybody is responsible for himself and the ones that are near to him or her. This freedom is only limited by other peoples freedom, so people should let eachother live their lifes and not restrict eachother in any way. Having said that. it is Wilders’ good right to make a movie like this, but as a politician there should be a moral. And what would his be?
He wants to burn and ban a religious book, the qur’an, which would result in creating a second-class citizen, a follower of Mohammed, a muslim. This is everything I am against, trying to decide for others what to believe, do or feel. This is also everything the Dutch culture, laws and constitution are against. By saying this, Wilders removes his entire credibility. It’s even worse that he removes the international view of the Netherlands being one of the most tolerant countries in the world, something I have always been very proud of.
Besides his misguided notion to limit peoples freedom of religion, Wilders also is a politician focusing on the negative things. He is what I would call a nay-sayer, always pointing out what is wrong and not bring a possible solution to the table, the only thing that could be said about him that’s positive is that he does point out problems whilst the rest of the Dutch politician aren’t even able to face them.
All this hate makes me sad, especially coming from a politician who should have the interest of the people in mind. I hope someone will stand up and see the same problems that Wilders sees, but with a more realistic, honest and idealistic outlook on life.

I could not agree more! (Was googling my name and found your site) See you!
