The company review

The company review

Sadly, this was not one of my best and brightest ideas of late. I started working on various posts, but it turned out that none of it would be suitable for publishing on this blog. I will continue the week like I posted, but the company review will most probably be replaced by something else.

Music and Books: the Name of the Wind

Music and Books: the Name of the Wind

51agosw05vlby Patrick Rothfuss
Publisher: Gollancz; New edition edition (June 12, 2008)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0575081406
ISBN-13: 978-0575081406

This is one of the most impressive books I have read in a while. As most of you know, I am an avid fantasy reader, specifically the epic ones, but most recently, my sister even introduced me to Neil Gaiman who writes fantasy novels. BUT, for the purpose of this post, that is irrelevant.

Patrick Rothfuss’ Name of the Wind is one of the most impressive books in a long time. It’s a story within a story, a story in which a hero of a thousand tales tells the truth about his history, wanting to set the record straight. Small interludes interrupt the story, but make sure you understand more about the man, whose story you’re reading, and what he has become through time. While at the same time, you start to feel for the relatively young boy who goes through life on his own, even though you know where it will end up.

Quite confusing right? It was the same for me the first 50 or so pages. But within a 150 pages or so, you’re completely drawn into the book. Why should you read this? Because fantasy isn’t great because it tells us dragons exist, it tells us dragons can be defeated.

I hope you are able to read it shortly, it IS worth it. Check out the author’s blog on Amazon!

Most notable was a small post on Tweakers about Philips.

This screen is built for a ratio of 21:9, making it possible to watch movies at home the same way you see them at the cinema. Few information is known about the screen right now, keep watching philips.com or tweakers.net if you’re Dutch for more information.

New Style

New Style

Allright. Sometime has passed since I have posted an item on this blog, major problem in regularly posting is that I do not have any structure in it. Since I did not have anything to do but thinking at work today, I decided to structure my posts from now on!

Sunday: 3 Most Remarkable Items
My weekly selection of the 3 most interesting items. Item choice could range from Fashion or Gaming to Marketing related items.

Monday: View on society
I always like to rant about the do-and- do- not’s of social interaction. Monday seems like the perfect day to bitch.

Tuesday: E-Sports / Gaming
Still gaming at least a few hours a week, and since gaming is so varied, wether it’s professional or not, it deserves a weekly post.

Wednesday: Professional
Since I try to do most of my weekly workload on the first 3 days of the week, the third day seems the best way to update on my views

Thursday: Technology
What’s new and how is it going to influence business in the future.

Friday: Music and Books
One of the major things I value for leisure. Both business and regular literature is discussed.

Saturday: Company Review
This might be overextending myself, but I will try to review one company on a weekly basis.

Starting tomorrow ofcourse!

Christmas; Happy Holidays!

Christmas; Happy Holidays!

And that’s basically the message, enjoy these family days and perhaps ’till the new year!

Norms seen through an immortals eyes

Norms seen through an immortals eyes

“Behold, earthshaking inventions which are obsolete within the same century – the steamboat, the railroads; yet do you know what these meant after six thousand years of galley slaves and men on horseback? And now the dancehall girl buys a chemical to kill the seed of her lovers, and lives to be seventy-five in a room full of gadgets which cool the air and veritable eat the dust.

And yet for all the costume movies and the paperbacks thrown at you in every drugstore, the public has no accurate memory of anything; every social problem is observed in relation to ‘norms’ which in fact never existed, people fancy themselves ‘deprived’ of luxuries and peace and quiet which in fact were never common to any people, anywhere at all.”
