Domaining and interest vs focus

27 Jul

One of the things I have been interested in for a long time is domaining; selecting valuable domains, acquiring them and then make money of them by either selling or parking them. While my interest hasn’t been lessened I noticed that because one of my key influencers; Frank Schilling of domaining blog Sevenmile, is much less active publicly, I lost my focus on it. Where I used to check the drops and developments at least on a weekly basis I now only check Sedo for recent sales.

While it is not strange that focus changes, normally if a focus is connected to a major interest it just stays up on the lists.

It got me thinking, what other interests have fallen away just because one or more of my key influencers quit? Or even more interesting; what are YOUR major interests that are mainly fueled by a key influencers activity?

Domain name acquisition – which?!

7 Jan

As I wrote in my ‘Happy New Year!’ post at the end of 2010 I am looking to acquire/register at least 3 addition brandable tld-domains. Before, I was thinking about a project or application and the name or term came to me quite naturally, revol7.com was a little bit forced bit still.. But I’m happy working my current job and there is no new projects in the near future, which leaves the question; what will inspire me now?! Fictional projects?

Really looking for ideas here, anyone with a good approach?

Frank Schilling returns to blogging

12 Dec

One of my favorite bloggers, Frank Schilling, has returned to blogging! After an hiatus of 2,5 years Frank returns to blog infrequently about the world of a domainer. One of my friends remarked on his return; ‘It’s as if he’s only around for the bad times, to tell us how great domains are’. And it seems he is, but whenever I read his posts I get a good feeling and he inspires me to think about stuff. So, just for this I thank him. And I recommend you read his blog at a new address: http://domainnamesales.com/sevenmile/

New Acquisition: gamingprofessionals.com

5 Dec

A few months there is nothing, suddenly there is stuff happening. This morning I made a deal for the domain gamingprofessionals.com, very clear, even though it is a bit long and very likely to get misspelled. Perhaps developing something that is worth a bookmark? Or SEO, even though my friend Yvo is seeking other conversion methods.

Do you like the name?

For the ones celebrating, enjoy Sinterklaas, it is what I am going to do!

New Acquisition: gamingzoom.com

The domaining market, of which I wrote already some time ago, is also feeling the financial crisis. Because I own a small set of domains (I might publish a list later) I keep checking the numbers, and even though there are still quite a few domains that sell for substantial amounts of money the lower parts of the market have really dropped their price levels.

With that in mind, yesterday, I made my first acquisition in quite some time.
