It seems to me, at least it is like this in the Netherlands, that people read or watch the media outlet of their choice, and only that media outlet. Are people censoring their own opinions? Or might it just be that any form of media inherently censors, or at least, subjectively decides on relevant information and newsworthyness.

Let’s take two newspaper headlines:

<Party> leaks governmental report
or;
Governmental report leaked to <Media>

Whoever reads this will in the first case have some negative feeling towards the mentioned party, whereas the second will most likely think the named media party will be at fault for corrupting someone in the government.

Both can be right, ofcourse, but I don’t believe in full objectivity. I think one people will always write it down like the former headline, the other like the latter. And you are the one who picks your source of media from the ones that confirm your image of the world the most?

Self-censorship, seems a waste, but noone wants to be informed that what he believed in is wrong. And this goes for more than just the latest news or political preference. And don’t give me crap about Reuters or any other newsdesk being objective either.

Most interesting would be confronting people with the truth, but then again, what’s that.
